Default Steering Box

Now that Lee is out of business and DSE at this time no longer carries them (I'm assuming their boxes were coming from Lee). What options are out there for steering boxes?

I saw this turn one....price is a little steep!

http://scandc.com/new/node/973

Any other suggestions? What is everybody else using now?

This is for a 1st gen Fbody.

Thanks!

The 3rd Gen IROC camaro boxes are a great upgrade. 12.7:1 ratio and cheap.

Mid nineties Jeep Grand Cherokee is a popular unit,I believe they are same unit as the 3rd gen IROC 1964SS just posted. Also check Fleabay for used Sprint Cup boxes,I have bought a couple of the lightweight 600 series for late model circle track cars, every now and again one pops up for a good price.

Many people have been using Turn one. I called them, and they can rebuild my unit or send a new one out.

The jeep boxes are fantastic for the a body swaps. The internal stops allow 43 degrees of rotation which matches up perfectly with the original boxes. I believe they would have too much rotation for an F body which is only 32 degrees so you might turn sharper, but you might also have interference elsewhere if turned sharper then it was designed to turn.

Lee was just up the street from me, had no idea he was planning to retire soon.

I'll look into 3rd Gen IROC box, I know the jeep box was meant more for the "A" bodies.

Might have to bite the bullet and get the turn one, assuming they're in stock...

The quicker constant ratio Saginaw 4-bolt box can be built with regular turning radius. The reduced radius was on the 16" wheel models.

If you have a good box needing service, I go through Benchwork Steering Systems.

The jeep, 3rd gen f-body and monte carlo ss box are all the same ratio, but the internal stops are different and the amount of effort to turn is different between them.

"The jeep boxes are fantastic for the a body swaps."

I have one on my 1965 Skylark and it has worked out very well. Make sure it is the Grand Cherokee.

I have a 1st gen fbody, I don't think the Jeep box works for my application.

You'll need hose adaptors and a rag joint into put the Jeep box into an early GM.

Rag joint for sure. If it is an LS motor and PS pump than the fittings should both be metric.

Looks like you would want a 1987 -93 XH box out of a car with F w/FE2 Level IV suspension.

Btw the car has an ls swap.

No, the Jeep box does not have the same steering radius as the f body boxes

You want the 1986 to 1993 Z28 box.

I used a hose off of a 1984 Monte carlo. Needed a slight tweak, but works well.
