Default 6.0 or 5.3 In 94 gmc With nv4500

I've been tossing the idea of an ls swap around in my 94 gmc 2500. I need some more info before I decide. So it currently has a 260k tbi 350 in it, with a 5 speed. Its only a 2500, so I figured it would be a nv3500, however, its fully cast iron. I'm guessing its a nv4500? Anyway, would a 6.0 be too much for a 4500? how hard would the swap be? and other than obvious hp and torque, what are the benefits of a 6.0 over 5.3 or vise-versa? I know I would need a new wiring harness, ecm, motor mounts and maybe an upgraded radiator. Could I keep the flywheel from the 94 350? Or do I need to find a manual flywheel for a 6.0? Am I missing anything else for the swap? Thanks in advance.

nv4500 is a pretty great tranny. around here they fetch a premium. it does need some upgrades at high torque levels. if yours is original to the truck, a '94 model should have a bunch of the kinks worked out already.

check out this thread, much of the information will be relevant. https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...-ls-motor.html

basically all you are doing is putting a gen 2 tranny behind a gen 3, which has been done cheaply, reliably and safely. keep us posted I think I'm doing this on my next 4x4 build.

Is there another technical name for the nv4500? I didn't see anything about this trans in the post. I basically just need to know the following:

Can I use my stock clutch assembly? (lines, cylinders, etc.) I'm guessing the clutch needs to be different.

Can I use my stock bellhousing (fitted to 94 350 tbi)
If not, what would I need?

If the clutch is different, which one do I use, and what flywheel do I pair it to?

Will I need to find better parts for my nv4500 to withstand a 6.0? I might possibly throw a cam in it, or bigger injectors.

Is there any custom fab work that I need to do? I don't own a welder, I just have hand tools, drills, potentially air tools.

From what I've seen on my own research, a lot of people are doing this, and they say its easy. I've been into mechanics for the past 3ish years, and I've never done any engine swaps. I don't know a ton about electronics, and I've never touched an LS. Given that info, is this possible with my skill level? I know you have to start somewhere, but am I over my head for a starting project?

i'd probably try the sachs nfw 1050 . its a little smaller diameter than the 1030 your truck came with, but will fit the ls starter. a gen 2 bellhousing will get you five bolts which is fine. not sure which clutch to use, maybe the one from an LS equipped truck . they used the nv4500 until 2007 i think.

all this stuff is just nuts and bolts man. you just gotta jump in there and start slinging wrenches.
