Default flywheel question

The flywheel on my motor was originally mated to a 6l90E it came with (three bolt flywheel). The new trans I got is a 08 4L80E and it has a 6 bolt converter. Should I stick with the six bolt converter or get the matching flywheel?

I do plan on changing to a aftermarket higher stall convert later on but might be a couple years. Are the aftermarkets 3 bolt or 6?

They are available in either 3 or 6. I have done 3 bolts in a 6 bolt converter. It made some racket so I drilled it for the other 3.

I was thinking of drilling the other three but was worried the flywheel offset was different so didn't try it.

yeah you have to egg them a fair bit. all the "LS" converters (stock 4l60e,6l90 etc) have a 11.066" bolt circle diameter while the 4l80e has a "gen 2" converter stock and uses an 11.5" bcd. so it ends up being like .200" you have to remove. it's not much in my book considering it centers on the snout anyways.

yeah they mixed and matched a bit. just get a stock 4l80e flexplate, spacer and bolt kit.
