Default T-56 shifter locations

Hello-

Swapping in a LS motor and trans into my 65 Chevelle and trying to figure out which one I should go with. The magnum is an obvious choice, but some of the pull out engine/trans packages get me thinking I should go that direction.

Looking for ~500 hp, Strange S60 rear with 3.90 gears.

Anyone point me in the direction of where I can find the difference in locations of the different T-56/TR6060/T56 magnum shifters?

Maybe measurements from front of bellhousing to shifter location?

GTO T-56 = 33"
CTS-V T-56 = 35"
99-02 LS1 Camaro = 29.5"
Camaro TR6060 = 33"
T-56 Magnum = 19" with forward most position - 27.5" with rear most position used

Any others if you have measurements would be helpful to me and I am sure others who are looking to do swaps.

Edit: found this link - http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/w...dimensions.jpg and this one: http://southernperformancesystems.co...hifterpos2rear

Thanks,
Dan

Here is a good look at how an 02 Camaro T-56 fits in my 64 Chevelle. I'm 5'9" and this is very comfortable.

Dan one thing to keep in mind is that the tr6060 and the cts-v t56 have a flanged output and unless you have a independent rear suspension and or a special driveshaft made they're not going to be a good choice. I had a cts-v t56 modified by using a gto main shaft and gto/F-body tail shaft housing to regain the splined output and I now have the ability to use the front shifter location or the rear location. In my 63 chevyII wagon with a bench seat I'll be using the front location.

If your '65 is going to be built without regard to matching a factory shifter location, the further back positions are better, ergonomically. And allow for a shorter stick.

If you're going with a bench, that's a different story.

I am going with buckets. As for shifter location I would like it to be comfortable.

I had just read today about the IRS issue with different models...didn't know that before. I had seen the different output shafts but hadn't put 2 + 2 together.

Dan another thing, the gto has a flanged output BUT it can be taken off and it has enough spline to run a slip yoke. Same as the f-body.

Beautifully, I'm running 31" SSRs in the rear with 4.11's gear. For 6th gear I need to be doing about 75-80.

Still running stock numbers with this combo? Holding together okay? I will go read your swap thread as it is probably all covered in there.
