Default LS2 In Lt1 Car - Coolant Sensor

Hey guys, so I need a hand with something.

I have a 1997 Camaro, that still has the Lt1 body harness, engine harness, and PCM.
It has an Ls2 in it being run by a Bigstuff3 ECU.
So, i have a LS1 style coolant sensor (2 pin) in the driver side head, feeding temperature information to the bigstuff3 and that is working great.

I have no signal to my dash however, and Id like one. SO I went to install my Lt1 coolant sensor in the passenger side head, but it doesnt fit. So i put in another ls1 style (2 pin, not 3 pin) in the passenger head.

My Dilema - This plug style has 2 pins in it, yellow and black. Can i hook up my 1 wire from my stock harness, into either of these wires (which one?) and get signal on my gauge? Thats all im looking for - gauge signal, not PCM or anything.

I would think you would need a 98 F-body 3 pin sensor. 2 wires to feed the pcm and then a third wire ran inside to one of the c200 connnectors to feed the temp gauge directly. Then again my car is 93 Camaro with a ls swap and 99-02 F-body harness and pcm.

that is sort of like gas gauge senders, even if you wire it up the gauge may not read right cause the units have different operating resistances.

Try and find an adapter for the old sensor. LS heads are a bitch with the M10 thread. Almost no aftermarket support for that size.

What lots of guys do is drill and retap the LS head. I forget how much larger you can go, don't take my word on it but I think 3/8 npt. You can do it with the heads on the car if you are careful, do a search and read someones write up.

Another option is to drill and tap the block heater plug. That is how I did mine. You can get a half inch sensor in that. There are pictures in my gallery

Another option is putting a T into one of the coolant lines.

You can also get adapters for the LS head but the M10 hole is so small you end up the the entire temp sensor outside the head. Not too accurate that way

Really trying to avoid drilling/tapping anything as the engine is already in the car.

The 98 3 pin sender sounds like it may work, ill have to try that. Any idea if the resistance values are similar?

If you google the part numbers of both units some times you can find a resistance curve.

I will be amazed if they are the same.

The block heater plug is super easy to unbolt from the engine. You can get a brass replacement unit from a dealership. That way you don't even pull the stocker until you have a new one ready to go.

Same with the hose T's.

I am using the 98 Fbody 3 pin sensor to run my stock ls1 pcm and the third terminal is powering my LT1 temp gauge. This is a very well known mod for guys converting a Lt1 car to a Ls1 car. I do not know the resistance readings. I guess I can check for you with my meter as I have both sensors.

Here is some info on the sensor. There are a lot more topics on this. You just have to do a search.https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...numbers-2.html
