Default Custom gauge conversion

Got a question for the guys with LS1 swaps. I wanting to put Dakota digital gauges in my 84 chevy c-10 ls1 with 4l60e. I've seen a Dakota digital gauge cluster made to fit my truck. Just swap out clusters. How would I get the speedo and tach to work? Do I need to wire it in the factory connector?

If you get the OBDII gauges, they just run directly off the PCM,you should be able to abandon your truck's stock wiring.
