I don't know if i am in the right place never ask a question on a forum b4.
I just bought my first bmw. The guy told me the starter is bad, when I got the car home the engine block was busted; I always wanted a bmw but I am not familiar with the car I am more so used to honda's engine, replacing them and rebuilding them; but it seems bmw is a whole new ball game. I've read different forums and articles to get familiar with the engines but I'm still lost. I saw an engine on facebook with a blown head gasket for 300, it comes out of a 2001 330i.
I have a couple question.
1. will it fit
2. what is dynamic control
3. what are all the engines or engine blocks with modification
4. I was wondering how difficult it is to replace the headgasket and drop it into my 04 bmw 530i.
I am excited for more progress here! I have been shopping for an e60 for awhile now and really want to do a similar swap. This thread has been a huge inspiration!
I am going for a t56, L33, and a 72 mm turbo running on e85. I built a similar setup for a 240sx a few years back but it was a 6.0 and a 76mm turbo on e85.

Not sure I can help you there. Sounds like you have a good amount of mechanical ability. I think you could handle it. Best of luck.

Time for a fast family car!
Nice. I do kind of wish that I have gone with a manual. My advice would be to buy a car that is manual to start with. If the car has active steering, it will be a tight squeeze for the driver's side manifold, but with a set of trailblazer SS manifolds (or any manifold and a bit of creativity), you should still be able to get around it. Good luck. Remember, when you get the car and start the build, post up a link in this thread. I wanna see it.

Oh, I will be starting a thread once I find a car. I really want to start with a manual but I am having one hell of a time finding one. The best deals I keep finding here in Indiana are on X-Drive cars as well which I understand have weaker rear diffs and axles. So, the search continues.
Well, summer has been here for a while, but I have been going full force on the Firebird WS6 (full engine and trans rebuild along with ecm tuning) to get it finished up and hopefully sold soon. I have also been doing some work on my nephew's gto. We're doing a fully built engine in that project. Anyway, since I'm currently waiting for parts to come in for the Firebird, I have had a chance to work on the gauge dilemma. I went ahead and forked over the $800 for a Dakota Digital vhx-1018 gauge cluster setup since it was the only one small enough to fit inside the space allotted for the bmw gauges. Here are some pics of me cutting up the bmw cluster frame to insert the dakota digital gauges.
I cut some 1/2 inch plexiglass so that the outer edge matched the bmw cluster frame and the inner edge matches the dakota digital gauges. In hindsight, I could have made it more professional looking than it ended up being, but I'm happy with the result. I'll post up more pics once I get it installed and wired in. Don't mind the absolute mess that I made on the carpet in my mancave as I was wreaking havoc on the bmw cluster
Here are just a few recent pictures that show how nicely the engine bay cleans up.
I will be posting a video of everything up and running once I get everything back together. I broke the fuel pump trying to get it out, so I have a replacement coming. The fuel gauge had to have the resistance values from the sending unit programmed in, hence the reason for pulling it out. Anyway, all gauges are now working (I have not tested the mph yet, but I'm going to go ahead and assume it works). Video coming before the snow falls.
