Default wiring question

Hi all,
I posted this in the new greeting section but I thought I'd put it here; I had a 2002 5.3 LS swap put into my 54 Ford F100 pick up. However, there is a battery drain 3.5 amps which I tracked to the external voltage regulator(on truck from previous 74 351m/400 motor)which the mechanic wired in to the harness. I suspect this should just have been excluded. I've been searching for a solution to this but I haven't been successful. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Rudy

How is it wired? My swap goes from the alternator to the battery. Your regulator should not be hooked up at all. A picture is worth two in the bush as the crow flies and all that.

agree. if you are using the 5.3 alternator, you need to delete your old regulator and wire per the 5.3 diagrams.

^^ What they said. Your alternator should be wired just like the 5.3. The wires going to the computer from the 4-pin alternator plug. Then the large gauge wire(s) going to battery/starter. No need to utilize any of the original external regulator equipment that was original on the 54.

If you have an r44 alt , it will run as a one wire , without change , just hook up the charging stud to the battery , with the engine running it will put out around 14 volts , I have a couple vehicles running that way
