Thanks Jimbo - brought it on myself. I pulled the driveshaft back out after the LS swap 5 or so years ago and took it to a local shop. They rebalanced it - and looking at the slip yoke wear, the owner said 1) he wouldn't balance it without putting a new slip yoke on it and 2) you really should change the "bush" as that's what's causing the wear and likely contributing to the vibe. I did everything BUT the bushing - because I thought it was gonna be a pain in the ***. Most pull the tail shaft housing out which often requires pulling the transmission out and I simply didn't want to do that after a year of working on the swap. And, of course, the transmission was just sitting there on the floor the whole time. I should have replaced it as a matter of routine maintenance. Idiot.
The middle one is the Ford branded one that came out of the transmission. The short one on the left is the Amazon special - less bearing area AND about 5 thou LARGER ID than the 'worn' one. The one on the right came from Natl Parts Depot and it's the one you want. More bearing area. And so tight that I had to use soap/water/600 grit on the inside to carefully hand fit it to the slip yoke on the new DS. Was still a bit snug for my liking after pressing it in the first time, so I pulled it and removed another thou or two for a perfect fit. And I think the 'hole' for tranny fluid to bathe the yoke is a better solution than the original had.

I don't know if you still monitor this post but love your build. I am also getting into this same project and curious if you could indulge into what the issue with the alternator was early on you had when it was charging over 14v. Im curious but I was going to get the same accessories and that leads me to my next question, when you said ctsv power steering pump, was that a Gen 1 or Gen 2 ctsv?
Thanks T.J.T -- turns out there was no issue with the alternator/charging. The system simply controls to a higher voltage than I was used to seeing. I get a consistent 14.5-14.7V -- and the car has operated flawlessly for over 5 years now.
I'm not sure I ever knew if the CTSV pump was a Gen 1 or Gen 2. If you can provide some specific characteristic I can look for I'm happy to follow up. I have a vague memory of the pump being a "mini-pump" -- does that mean something relative to Gen 1 or Gen 2?
Well, the Corolla is getting close to having a new, period-correct engine transplant. Yamaha-headed 2TG DOHC motor similar to the ones that the JDM market Levin's and Trueno's got. We never got the engine here. This one has been bored and stroked from 1588cc up to 1941cc. Should be fun.
40mm Solexes -- I think there was/is some licensing agreement between Weber, Solex and Mikuni. They're all similar.
There was another one - Dell'Orto (or Dellorto) which supposedly had better metering than Weber. The air cooled VW folks really like them. Not sure they did sidedraft though.
Well -- after 23 years of fun, the time has come to let the Volvo move on to its next steward. It'll be popping up on Bring-A-Trailer over the next few weeks. Thanks for all the LS support/education here over the years.
I try not to burn too much time on BAT, as it's a rabbit hole that can suck me in for hours if I'm not careful. Please post up the link when the auction goes live, that's one I'll want to watch.
thanks for all the volvo insights and congrats to the new owner. As mentioned please post the link i would be interested to follow the auction as well!
I'm no expert by any measure, but I would say you did well, and its new owner is getting a fine piece of machinery worthy of some serious road tripping!
