LS3 in 82 Volvo 242
Thx....
Performance results? It’s a helluva lot quicker than it was with the 5.0L. And so far better fuel mileage. Much quieter and more refined. I suspect you meant something more quantifiable such as a 1/4 mile time. Not available. I’m old and got most of the shenanigans that lead to tearing stuff up out of my system when I was racing SCCA. But 440HP+\- in 2980 lbs is predictable. Knock a second off for insufficient traction.
A few years back (with 340 or so 5.0L Ford HP) I paid a few bucks to lap Road Atlanta at lunch time during the Walter Mitty. 3 groups of cars took the track - by luck, I was the last car in the last group. In front of me was a C6 Corvette (stock, more or less) and in front of him a pretty wicked turbo Miata. The Miata immediately slowed down and let the other cars move several corners ahead. And that gave us 2 or 3 corners to turn up the wick a bit. So we did 8-10 laps that way - waiting for others to pull away and then blasting back up to them. No one was running at 10/10ths -- but at 7/10ths, I was pretty well glued to the back of the Vette. As we left the track, he pulled over in the paddock and waved me down. Pulled up next to him and he's like "....do you have any idea how embarrassing it is to look in the mirror and keep seeing that Volvo emblem in the grill?" We both got a good laugh out of it.

An aside -- I had the car at the Joe Gibbs Racing fan appreciation day car show a few weeks ago. Several of the Joe Gibbs guys were at the Hendrick show today -- they told me that I had won a trophy at that show too. But I left early to meet my bride for breakfast...have to be there to win! So the Volvo is dominating the Nascar show/cruise-in arena. Whatever the hell that means....LOL!
I hung around to the end of the Hendrick show because I just had a feeling after watching the judges look at the car (on the ground looking underneath, front and back and giggling like school girls the whole time) that I just might have a chance.

Maybe reference to the first start vid. I put 5 qts into the oil port at the front/driver’s side at 15 psig as required to preserve crate engine warranty. Took another qt or so through the oil fill. You can hear lifters for about 2-3 seconds at start up then you can hear it quiet down. The ticking after that is the INJECTORS firing off - yes, it’s that quiet.

Hi Micheal excellent job on the conversion ,funny running into you here I was a regular on the corral probably since the late 90s,haven't been out there much at all for 8 years or so but do remember many of your informative posts..
I also just completed a LS3 conversion, in my 91 Ranger, amazing engines im also so very impressed with the gas mileage and performance all around especially compared to the 4.0 that was in it
