Default Fuel Delivery - S-10

Swapping my '03 S-10 over to a '99 5.3 Gen III engine. My question to the group is: Can I plumb in the '99 Silverado fuel delivery to the '03 S-10 platform basically stock 5.3 in my S10. Was under the truck yesterday and noted that there is a delivery, 3/8" and return 5/16", that runs TB to Fuel tank. Thinking that this could run a stock Silverado set-up to the truck intake (fuel Rail) from the fuel tank, stock Silverado filter in the feed line.

The goal is to have the truck run as many stock GM parts as possible. This is a daily driver, NA truck. I'm looking for something fun, that will knock down MPG in the 24-25 range.

Engine: '99 5.3 from a Silverado, '00 LS1 cam from a Corvette, Converter from a '00 Z/28 LS1. Otherwise stock.

Trans: 4L60e from the S10

Rearend: 7.625 3.42:1 gear, gov-loc posi. (yes, this is the weak link, Explorer axle upgrade later).

Thoughts?

I did this on my 93. I cut the feed and return after the factory filter under the truck. I used stainless compression fittings and then ran 3/8 and 5/16 brake line tubing to the front of the truck wrapped in rubber hose. I then took the factory connectors off the 5.3 and cut them about 6 inches away from the fuel rail connector, and then used two more stainless compression fittings to mate them together. I upgraded the tank pump to a 255 lph and it has been flawless for over two years. You must know the proper way to tighten compression fittings though. I go hand tight and then one full revolution to tighten. Be sure to check every connection for leaks after completion.

Default Fuel lines

Alright, it works. My thinking is to get the replacement Silverado fuel line kit then. Leak free and corrosion free. Replaced the filter about 18 months ago, but the kit comes with a new one.

I built my own using Dorman parts from amazon for under $60. You can get the 5/16 and 3/8 adapters and the tube. Then I modified a $3 caulking gun to hold my flair tool so I could press the fittings into the tube. "DO NOT HEAT THE TUBE" it has a memory and heat could stop it from returning to its original size to keep the system together.

The kit is going to be to long and cost more. My build was about the same 2003 s10 with 2002 5.3. Integrated the 5.3 harness into the stock s10 fuse box so even that was stock parts and all plug and play. All stock fuel system and mostly stock cooling system.

3/8 straight # 800-082
800-082.5 for a pack of 5
5/16 straight # 800-080
800-080.5 for a pack of 5
3/8"x 10' tube # 800-075
5/16"x 10' tube # 800-074

So, did this new part run from the truck fuel rail to the disconnect on the main fuel line? There is a compression fitting at the trans bellhouse that can be unbolted. Looks like this would be the "short" flex hose connection point.

I'm still working on the engine removal, underside of the truck. Way more connections than with an old muscle car!

Guessing that I will need to unscrew the fuel line at the location I am trying to describe, seems to be bolted down on the backside of the trans. Once the Xmember is dropped I will have more room to work and figure that out.

I'm off on Veteran's Day to get some work done on the truck. Would like to have the engine out, degreased and test fit the engine. Will also be ordering the wiring kit and sending out the computer.

So far the top side of the 4.3 is stripped, core support/bumper removed, motor mounts are undone and the chain is bolted on.

I removed the flex line and ran the lines from the fuel rail to the fuel filter and tank. I did run the line inside a heat proof sleeve
(Thermal Zero High Temperature Heat Sleeve Exhaust Heat Aluminized Heat Sheath) <---Amazon
that got me past the exhaust because I ran it along the frame rail and came up under the hydroboost at the fire wall.

Screw a Dorman 800-170 into your fuel filter and it makes the entire system push on and all parts can come from your local parts store if you have any problems. Most sell Dorman parts and can get them in if they dont stock them or you can just do what I did and order each fitting in a box of 5 you will still spend less than $150 and have extra. I will never run a steel line again. Also if your tight on space Dorman 800-086 and 800-081 are 90* bends.

Sorry I built this thing last year or the year before and just sold it to start a new one and cant go look. I did put 5,000 miles on it with no problems before she left for her new home.
