Default Th400 to lq9 issue

I'm doing an lq9 to th400 swap in a foxbody and not sure what I'm missing. Put everything together and there is about a 1/2 inch gap between the converter and flexplate. I have this converter: https://m.summitracing.com/parts/sum-700361

you need the spacer that goes between the snout of the converter and the crankshaft.

I have the spacer that goes in the back of the crank, it's in the picture. All of that fits. But the converter can't go forward enough to contact the flexplate. Or the flexplate isn't far enough towards the converter, I'm not sure which or how to go about fixing the problem.

I now see the spacer in your photo...could your converter have been mislabeled as a standard TH350/TH400 converter and be a long snout LS crank converter in reality? Did you have this converter installed behind a BB or SB Chevy previously?

Are you sure the spacer is fitting over the snout of the converter?

The converter is going into the spacer as far as it can and it's still not enough. The bellhousing will bolt up just fine but there's the gap between the footpads of the converter and the flexplate. I've seen some people use washers and longer bolts to make up the difference but was hoping I wouldn't have to go that route. The converter is just a cheaper one from summit for a th400, brand new. I don't have a starter on hand so I'm not even sure if the flexplate is spaced correctly.

I have that same converter from summit except I'm using the stock 6.0 flexplate/spacer with no problems. Your flexplate looks like a stock 5.3/4l60e unit, is it installed the right way. I've seen guys install them facing the wrong way, it's hard for me to tell cause I've only used the 6.0 flexplates. Btw the converter is decent for the price.

I'm not sure what the flexplate is off of but was told it would work. It won't fit if I flip it around so I assume it's on right. If I get the 6.0 flexplate and spacer, is that the converter snout spacer that I have in the pic or the spacer that bolts on with the flexplate?

It's the spacer with flexplate and longer bolts.

I've used the stock 5.3 flexplate with that same crank adapter on a TH350 and a TH400. No problems either time. I would guess you have the wrong converter.

Where did you get that spacer? it doesn't look right. The ones I have run have a much smaller lip protruding through the flexplate. I have used the factory spacer and flexplate combo from a 6.0/4l80e combo and it botted right up

I'm pretty sure it's this kit or one similar to it:

I might just go to the dealer and get a flexplate and spacer and try that.

wish I had a pic of my flex plate, it's flat face, still uses a spacer but the plate has pads on it where the converter bolts on. It's like small feet, so it sticks further out for the converter to bolt on. Looks like about 3/8ths to 1/2 pad. I'll have to see if I can get a pic tonight

The shop that put my tranny uses that same flex plate on all their builds. They said to many issues with a curved plate due to converter differences.
