Making some progress and more homemade tools. Made this to compress the clutch springs
Found another issue in the pump cover, pretty severe corrosion pitting where the sealing rings on the input shaft sit. Hard to see in the picture but it's pretty bad, I'm putting a new pump cover on to be sure.
There is a car show in Port Arthur this Saturday evening and I hope to have it going by then.
So I haven't posted an update in a while. I did get the transmission rebuilt and back in the car. It wasn't that bad, I just took it slow and steady. I have both the ATSG manual and the Cliff McCormick book and I have to say the McCormick book is SSOOOOOO much better than the ATSG. Much better pictures and much clearer explanations. Ended up taking a while to get it done, usually because I was waiting on parts.
I also made some upgrades while I was in there. Billet shafts - input, main and sun gear. Also put in a new center support, new direct drum with 36 element sprag and new billet forward hub. All from CK Performance as well as his master shift recalibration kit. The sonnax line to lube boost valve cured the TCC dragging issue.
As soon as I got it back in I ended up having to go out of town for work for a couple of weeks but now I've been able to drive the car some. Transmission works great

With the trans finally shifting like it should I was able to identify some other issues. My boost control just wasn't working. It came into boost rather quickly and the best way to describe it was violent. I mean smoking the tires at 80 when you floor it violent.
Turns out I'm just an idiot.....
When I plumbed the boost control I managed to miss a port on the bottom of both gates. There were 3 and I thought there was only 2 on each so basically the wastegate wasn't opening at all. It works so much better with pressure on the bottom of the gate.
I had the tune really conservative so it didn't hurt anything in the motor.
Working on the tune now with the boost turned way down. No problem controlling it now.
Also Got my Vintage Air unit charged and working good. Had to go back and fix mistakes there too but it's working now. BTW when they say you have to run the ground wire all the way to the battery they mean it, it wouldn't work until I did that.
Been working on the tune and driving the car. Getting the engine bay cleaned up and pretty.
I also insulated the intercooler and added a bleed line to bleed any trapped air since the intercooler is the highest point of the system. I already had a 1/8 pipe plug there but this way it's always bled.
On the tune I kept trying to lean it out in cruise and idle because I thought that's where it needed to be but the motor wants to be rich so I'm going to quit being hard headed and give it what it wants.
Also took it to a local rod run a few weeks ago in Lumberton.
Got my radiator catch can installed
Added an input to the dominator for the "A/C kick" and it works great. Doesn't try to die anymore when the A/C compressor kicks on.

How much do you have in the rebuild. If you don't mind, trying to decide what trans to use, 4l60, 4l80, t5, etc.
Been getting some things done on the car lately so it's time for an update.
Got a new rear bumper put on
Been working in the interior as well. Got the dash looking pretty good. Carpet in the front. New kick panels and speakers. So I've got some tunes now.
Built an air box to pull cooler air from the front rather that hot air from under the hood. Has a rubber seal at the top that seals to the hood.
Put this new hood brace in that is open for my new air intake to work. For those not familiar with these cars the stock brace is stamped sheet metal and seals against the top of the radiator support.
I've been wanting to take it to the track and see what it will run but every time I get an opportunity it seems to rain. No cage yet so I won't get many runs but it would be nice to know an actual time.
