Default LS swap Newbie

I am new to this LS thing. I have several friends that convinced me to do an LS swap. I am working on getting a 2000 5.7 LS. I am putting it in a 1978 Chevy impala 4 door. I am keeping the TH350 and am aware I need the adapter for the trans and to mount to the LS flywheel. I plan on keeping it injected for now. I need some advise of parts and wiring for the swap. any help would be appreciated.

get the engine complete as can will help big time. If wiring there go to Lt1Swap.com and you can work it yourself. I believe you can install 88 and up impala gas tank to get your fuel system going. Just get a pump with correct fuel pressure. Don't go cheap as it comes back on you. I learned that so I then went AC DELCO pump. Camaro low mount ac compressor and altenator may not fit like Camaro.

Find some similar build threads and read through them, then ask more specific questions once you know more about things in general. Just jumping in and buying stuff without understanding what you're doing will result in a lot of time and money wasted. Ask me how I know. At this point it's all been done before so plenty of good info out there.

You can use the stock flexplate with a $25 hub adapter, you'll just need to slot the holes for the converter. You can also use the stock mounts on the current engine with some cheap adapter plates.

If you want to save a few bucks, you can sell the F-body oil pan and pickup tube (up to $200) and just run a regular truck pan. People throw them out all of the time. In all honesty, the LS1 isn't the best swap candidate to begin with. You could score a 5.3/6.0 truck engine for less and it already have truck accessories, intake, oil pan. A 6.0 is sometimes up to half the cost of a normal complete LS1, and a 5.3 can be had for a quarter of the price.

Yeah sure, if you don't mind the extra 100lbs from the iron block.

With a 6.0, the increased part throttle torque will make up the difference.

You can get an aluminum 5.3 cheaper than an LS1.

we did an LS1 into a 1977 Monte Carlo. We goy lucky with a 5.7 , trans and entire computer and wiring harness. I ended up going back and buying more parts from the donor car to get smog in CA. Fuel tank and sensors, air cleaner . It took a long time , but was a great project. Stay with the LS1, its just cooler than the 5.3 or 6.0L

In what way?

Less bang for the buck long block to long block?
A block that is trash if it requires anything over a .005 hone?
A block with the highest chance of cylinder 7 sleeve issues?
A chance you end up with Perimeter bolt heads?

'Cooler' might be the wrong term.

IMHO youll be better off with the 5.3. LS1 youre buying the name, stick an LS1 intake on the 5.3 and normal people wont know the difference.

Lt1swap.com is your bestfriend for the wiring hands down if youre diy. Unless you can get a premade standalone

don't overpay for the 5.3. I bought 1 completely dressed with 4L60E 2wd for $500 I pulled it. Little over 100k miles on it and heard it run first.

I would look into a different oil pan. Those truck pans hang ridiculously low in just about any car.
