I have some questions, are the non-ls 4l80s not controlled by the pcm? If I go to pull one, can I just leave the convertor to the flex plate, and just pull the trans out with any damage? And how the hell do you guys pull them the pick and pull yards by yourself, or do you have help? I'm thinking of getting a HF aluminum jack to help.

They aren't too hard, pull the inspection cover off and remove the TQ converter from the flxplate. And if it doesn't have the updated internal harness you can replace it with the newer style. The pcm controls the transmission just needs to be programed for a 4l80e. I've pulled one alone but helps a lot to have another hand there drop it down.

my local PnP's dont let you use a jack or any cutting tools

haha last one i pulled I undid all the flywheel and bellhousing bolts and then used a pry bar and let it fall onto a stack of old tires. they gotta weight 250lbs

I will have to ask about jacks, the next time I'm there. I do know you cant use anything that creates a spark, but you can use a sawzall.

I got mine from Pick-N-Pull, about 4 months ago, a week after taking the '98 or '99 454 it had lived behind. I was surprised it was still just laying there under the C3500HD chassis-cab, but it was mine for under $150. IDK if it works, but I wouldn't sell it for less than $400. I have another project needing a 4WD version.

ALL of them, from the '91 intro on, were 4L80E or 4L85E, there never were any non-Electronic versions. For that you need a 700R-4, or adapt a 4R70W or a 48RH from a Cummins Ram 3500. That last one is the strongest option for non-computer with an overdrive. Unless you want something like a Rossler? TH210 with a Gear Vendors.

You can buy a box from jakes performance that makes it full manual for $200. But I think it shifts hard all the time. Better off buying a controller if your not running a pcm.

There is a local place near me that sell them for $800 w/ 2 year warranty. You should be able to find them much cheaper from a private seller.
