Default 4l80e price?

I've been looking for anything below $800 used and that seems to be the mark. What's everyone else think? I've even been trying to find a 6.0 and trans pullout to maybe sell the motor to make up some of the money...... but it seems these are getting harder to come across the "good deals"

i usually pay about $150 for a core (unknown mileage, function etc)

i'll pay about $400 for something I can test drive. More if i can verify mileage or build provenance.

$800 sounds like you are shopping for only stuff that came in LS powered vehicles.

look for the earlier ones in 2wd 3500 vans, '96-'00 behind the 5.7L

and no doubt the "good deals" are fewer and farther between. the LS thing has taken off like crazy in just the 4 years I've been into it. everyone wants an LS

My friend and I bought a 1993 2500 2wd Suburban that was rusted out for 400 bucks. It ran and drove fine. He took the engine and I took the 4L80e. So I essentially got the trans for 200 bucks. We took a few odds and ends from the vehicle then filled it with scrap and took it to the scrapyard. Really both of us had far less than 200 each after we scrapped it.

That's about the range around here, you almost have to pay someone to take away a 4x4 4L80E, 2WD units are a bit harder to find, most in these parts were behind a 6.5 turdodiesel.

yeah they've been around since '91

GM has introduced quite a few rolling changes and technical updates...more than I can remember off the top of my head. There's some legit info on the sloppy wiki

https://sites.google.com/site/sloppy...-ls/4l80e-info

Generally I look for '96 and newer for the rear lube update, but the '93-'95 ones are plenty stout too.

When I was shopping I found that the older units without the LS specific bolt pattern (missing the top bolt) are plentiful and cheaper. You have to look a little harder to find newer versions. I paid $500 for my 4L80E out of a 2007 Express Van. Having the updates and that extra bolt was important to me.

Paid 100 bucks for a 2002 out of a 2wd 2500. I have 700 wrapped up in it so far for a stock rebuild with some upgrades like the shift improver kit.

I paid $300 for a said-to-be functional core about 3 months ago...it was the cheapest I could find at the time.

yeah they are popular with pretty much every chevy enthusiast. they can hold a ton of power, bolt to damn near everything chevy.

but GM did make literally millions of them. so they're out there. 2wd, 4wd, weirdo ones with a drum brake on the tailshaft...you name it.

last one I got I just put a want ad on craigslist " I have $400, I want an 80e I can test drive" and got one same day.

Glad to hear there's still some deals, but I've been looking and havent seen any the last few months. Even called a transmission shop and they wouldn't sell me one. Said the same thing, they are hard to find.

car-part.com if you search for various years, e.g. 2001 chev express van, i see anywhere from 400-1800 for rebuilt units. lkq had a 20k mile out of express van i saw for 1300.

I got one finally for $450, it's an 05 model with right at 100k on it. Going to inspect it and see whether it looks good enough or rebuild it. I'll probably rebuild it just to be safe

I get mine from pick and pull when they have half off sale. 100 bucks. They can be found in any 90s 2500 trucks.

With 100k I wouldn't touch it! Just run it, that's a pretty low mileage 4l80

100k is nothing. Id put a filter in it, fresh fluid and a TransGo. Columbus took a chance
