can I just hook P and S together and run them to the main power?

I don't know anything about the P terminal. The S needs to go to the point where the rest of the vehicle gets its main power, like a power distribution block or the main lead on the fuse panel.

Sorry...my fault...I did not mean to say P...I meant S.
The S is optional but desirable and the L is mandatory.
