Default Remote reservoir for hydroboost in A body

Not sure if this goes here or in third-gen external, but it's swap related and might require the use of something more recent than 2002.

Regardless, I've been away from my swap for a while but in two months I'll be able to go home and spend two weeks on the car. What I need help with now is the power steering pump, specifically getting the reservoir detached or just buying a new one.

I'm using truck-spaced front end accessories and have installed a hydroboost system in the car. Brakes work fine but realistically the reservoir needs to be higher up and not at one of the lowest point in the system (stuck to the pump).
Can the reservoir be taken off?
If not, which pumps have separate reservoirs? I was thinking some years of F-body might but I'm not certain. Would this work? I have no idea what the pump looks like without the res on it. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tff-6175al-7
I'm using an aftermarket bracket and can press/pull the pulley and shim as needed to get things lined up.
I've been away so long I've forgotten a ton but I want to have the parts that I'll need ordered and waiting.
There are some pictures of the bracket I'm using in this post - https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...l#post19351575

Thanks for any info

That's what I used a van pump, with a van or '60,s GM bigblock remote reservoir.

Thanks guys, I'll check into that. Should be cheap and readily available. I already have a reservoir from a van so I'm good to go there I hope.

From my experience........Just using a reservoir for the returning fluid is only half the battle.........I did that and had a problem with aeration of the fluid which caused "Sticky" spots in the steering..........I added a Concept1 reservoir designed to resolve the aeration issue.......they control the flow of the fluid back to the reservoir to eliminate any aeration issues........Expensive, but worth every penny........

Looks like they run $175 or so, I'm sure they could be found cheaper. If I had a picture of the inside I could probably make one myself.
Do you have any pics of your setup or how you routed the hoses?

No Pic's...........But.....I would just make sure the return flow doesn't flow upward.......The Concept1 unit has the flow pattern flowing around the inside of the reservoir......not upward.....

Look for an Astro van with hydroboost. The reservoir design is OEM proven in that vehicle and the tank may be adapted to fit yours. I'm running one on my 1961 Impala and it worked perfectly all last summer.

I actually pulled one of those from a yard, wasn't sure if that was one people had a problem with or not. Sometimes oem proven isn't what we'd like it to be. It sounds like a new astro pump from rockauto and that reservoir should solve my problems. Too bad getting it and the pulley on and off is such a pain. Thanks for the info.

Usually OEM engineering is good, but when it's bad it's really bad.
