Question On Resistor For DR44G Pin L

I know there is an endless amount of threads on this topic, but I am curious about the recommended resistor for the wire connected to pin L for those without an OEM ECM.

This much I know from my experience: the alternator will eventually fail if it gets direct 12V and will not charge if it sees no voltage (broken resistor). A 1/2-watt 470 ohm resistor seems to be the consensus, but I am curious why the pirate4x4.com article recommends 50 ohm (watt?) and the connector that Painless sells uses a 85 ohm 5-watt!! Seems like quite a disparity.

I don't know the reasons for the disparity of information, but I am using the alternator that Holley sells, which includes a resistor, and it works perfectly.

I use a 470 ohm resistor. Works fine.
If you hook it up without a resistor it will run at 100% duty cycle and eventually fail.
The voltage is also reduced at 100% duty cycle.

I've been using the same 1 watt 470 ohm resistor depicted in the picture I created for LS1tech a few years back. The car regularly sees a variety of (ab)use, some foul weather, some high RPM, etc. And the one thing that has stayed amazingly consistent is the electrical system. I kept a few spare resistors from the multi pack I got from Radio Shack, but haven't needed a single one.

Who knows why other sites state a different ohm rating. Just use the 470 ohm and move on with the build, it works

I am (was) using a 1/2-watt 470 ohm resistor but the terminals on both ends of the resistor broke off. Wanted to replace with higher wattage rating to get beefier terminals and that's when I saw 5-watt resistor used by Painless. That led to further research. I'll head out to Radio Shack but I expect that to be a wasted trip

Need help please just started my rewiring on my LS1 alternator

So are you sure the one that painless is selling uses the 85ohm 5watt resistor? just wanted to be sure on the numbers so I don't get the wrong resistor.

are you talking aboit a 2 pin or 4 pin dr44g mine only has 2 pins and from what i can figure out it looks like theres nothing i can do but too leave them unhooked and have it charge at 13.8v

Cs130 on older chevy

Try this. Radio Shack 2 -47 ohm & 1 -100 ohm resistors..10 watt rated. 3 total resistors. Under $5. Tie a 100 & 47 together, out of that to a 47 ohm. This will result in 82 ohms.
