7.5 rear end
G body - look for a 8.5, came in wagons, 442 and Grand National. Not real common, but will just bolt in.
H Body - 7.5 replaced the 6.5 in late '75 on Vega, Monza and clones
S Series - 7.5 until late '88, then 7.65 and more important, 28 spline axles. The 4x4 and Blazers got 8.5, but different width. S Series and H body are 58" wide
You can upgrade the axles and internals (Moser and Strange) but will have diminishing return with the more power you put thru it.
Having said all this, I'm running a 7.625, Gov-Lok 3.42 gear in my S10 with out issues. Already sourced the 8.8 for it when the time comes.
