Default What determines the 'year' of the motor in CA

Is it the block, or the PCM?

IE, if I use a 98 block and a 2002 pcm, what year is the motor? Asking for smog reasons, trying to not run EGR.

Thanks!

I would think that it is based on the motor since the motor hardware will determine which emissions equipment is installed on the motor. Since a '98 motor has an EGR on it, I would think that a Referee Station would expect this to be working.

In Georgia you would go by the bar code on the door. I would expect that you will need to follow the rules for the 93. Call DOT.

God I wish CA would do that

Even though the thing will blow 5 times cleaner than a RX7, its not CA legal

If you changed the "hardware" (intake, ect.) to the 02 style engine.....How is the Referee going to tell the difference if you're running an 02 Computer? When I done my swap i dont remember any way to identify the engine as far as an engine serial number specific to the year that it was produced. I could be wrong, but I believe that you could get away with it by changing the intake ect and tellling the referee that it was out of an 02. You already have the VIN for the 02 that you got the computer out of, you could tell him that the engine came out of the same car.

Let me know how the Referee Station goes....I got out of the marine corps about a month ago, but if i had had more time, between the swap and when I got out I would have taken it. If i decide to get back in I'd like to be able to talk to someone that has taken their car to the referee to get it inspected, because i would be comming back to camp pendleton (pit stop until i go to iraq probably).

The engine serial numbers should match the vehicle VIN and this should tell you the year.
