Default what supplies power to 95 silverado ect gauge?

I recently swapped an 01 5.3 into a 95 silverado and I'm having trouble getting the coolant temp gauge to work on the dash. I switched over to a 3 wire sensor and plug and i'm able to get the pcm to see a correct ect and I have resistance on the 3rd leg that seems to match what it should based on coolant temp. I have the 3rd leg running to the yellow wire on the truck harness currently but I have switched them with no change. when I turn the key on all the other gauges move like they are getting power but the coolant seems to stay in the same place.
where does the coolant gauge draw its power from? is it on a different circuit from the other gauges in the cluster? the gauge worked on the original 305 but i killed the battery overnight during the swap and ended up logic locking my aftermarket radio but I don't think the two problems would be related.

My old manual shows the original temp sensor had a black and a yellow wire going to it. Not sure if it helps at all. Here's a link.

I just found another diagram and it looks like the pcm of the 95 is actually looking at the ect not just the gauge like i was under the impression of. I'm guessing I can just tie the 95 harness into the same wires as the 5.3 harness and it should work. hopefully...

On the instrument cluster diagram find the wire that goes the the temp. gauge, that is the one you need to connect your third wire from the sender to(R-dark green in this diagram, should be in the underhood harness),the oil and water gauges are independent of the PCM in that truck.

Mine is a 1992 and all did with the 3 wire has hookup the 2 wires for the 5.3 pcm and the one wire to the old temp sensor yellow wire. Did it work before? I would check your connection and the ground. connect the old sensor and see if it changes the gauge. Just use some heat to warm up the old sensor.

You could always just run your 95 factory sensor in the other head for your gauge only signal
