Default 5" gauges in first gen

I read somewhere that the Autometer 5" gauges will fit ib the first gen dash. I have the cobalt speedo and tach and was wondering what mods are needed to make it fit. Thanks.

Yes, they will both slide into the factory bezel (from the front). Use the supplied brackets to mount it on the backside. Only works on the 67-68s.

Because of the trim rings on the 5" gauge they wont slide in far enough to use the supplied brackets...mounting studs are about 1/4" short. Did you have to modify the bezel at all? Those cobalt gauges should look awesome if I can install them correctly. 130fe, got any pics of them installed? Thanks for your input.

I enlarged the metal retainer openings and installed them from the back side. But I can't get the tach to work. I have a constant 13 volts on the vehicle speed sensor wire regardless of idle or higher rpm. Any suggestions anyone?

Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is not a tach signal it is your speedometer signal wire.

When I ran my tach using the PSI harness, PSI gave me a procedure for hooking up the tach. Set the tach in 4 cylinder mode. in addition to the wire going from the PCM to the tach signal, wire in a 1K ohm 1/4 watt resistor going from a fuse protected 12 volt source to the tach signal.
In other words you will have two wires going into your tach signal line, one to the PCM and one to 12 volts with a resistor.

So out of the back of the Autometer tach, there are two wires...one to 12v thru a 1k resistor and the other to the PCM? I'm most likely using a different PCM. I have an E67 ECM, (PCM), with an LS2. Don't know if that would be the same solution, but I'[ll give it a shot! Autometer tells me I need their $183 LS adapter harness...in English that means "bend over".
