Default stock 350 vs ls1 swap on a 2001 v6 fbody

which would be a better choice to go with
i got a friend willing to sell me a 350 small block crate engine out of a 79 chevy suburban since we broke the driveshaft on it

should i take the offer or save up for an ls1 and swap it like that

'79 was smog heads and a fucked up cam for emissions.

http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/73-87specs.html

There's a list of pickup V8s. As you can see the '79 350 made 175 CRANK horsepower. I swapped one into my '69 cause they're cheap and I was on a budget and it's a total dog, even with longtubes and edelbrock intake/carb.

Also they have different mounts than the LS series (i think)

If it's cheap you could keep since it might be an 010 cast, 4 bolt main block and those are nice.

My interpretation or the OP statement was the engine is a 350 crate engine that was in his friends 79' truck. Depending on the specs and price it might be the better option. Personally I'd go with the LS engine and fuel injection route.

Why sink money into 60 year old technology when you sink money into 20 year old technology...LOL

When different is a relatively gutless cast iron carbureted engine compared to a relatively WAY more powerful and efficient aluminum engine, that is backward thinking.

^^^ This
What I see happening is you buy some old and slow 350, tear apart your vehicle, run out of money to finish the project, and then have no money or car.

If you are going to do the swap, find a wrecked 99-02 LS1 car.
