99 new edge mustang 4.8 lsx turbo swap
First off my name is Robby and I’m from northern Kentucky. Ive been out of anything car related for a long time and never owned anything faster then bolt on mustangs.
this project started shortly after our first family trip to the track . It actually started off with a rust free fox. With my budget and looking to have a car done by spring 2018, the fox was missing to much so it got sold and picked up something more complete. Came out even, sold some parts off the fox and kept some too.
So... that brings us to the current new edge mustang. 99 6 banger, decent body wise, ran and drove like **** but it ran and drove. To top it off, i brought it home for $450. The plan for the car is of course a ls based motor, Th400 and a single turbo. I’m shooting for 10’s. Im not brand loyal to any company. I’m starting from pretty much scratch and I’m putting my money where the proven reliable power comes from.
*Edit* planned on listing every part I’ve bought and the price but with my work schedule it’s impossible to keep up with. I will add everything up at the end of the build with a grand total
So here’s how the new edge started off. **** *** 6 banger... paid $450 for it and sold the motor, trans, alternator, wheels, hood and scrapped the cats. Brings my total to $160 for the car itself
Picked up a 4.8 with 137,391 miles for $263 out the door. Came with a harness, have to track down a ecu still.
Fti street racer 9.5 2800-300 converter that was recently sent back in, opened up and inspectected by FTI. Guy on eBay accepted my offer so I got it for $300 Shipped
Sold my eibach sportlines that were on the fox for $200. Threw my stock new edge springs on it and ordered these eibach drag launch springs. After selling the sportlines, I only have $50 into these
Aje kmember was $280.99, spring perches $48 and saved a little money and found the engine mounts on the classifieds section on here and paid $50 for those. Also ordered a aje tranny crossmember for a Th400 for 159.97
Picked up some 275/60/15 Mickey Thompson ET street ss’ off Craigslist for $150 and bought a couple jegs pro star knock offs for 207.98 Shipped. Mounted and balanced at tire discounters for free bc they took 6hrs to mount them.
Scored an amazing deal on some 15x4 weld rts’with Mickey Thompson radials. All brand new with stickers on the tires $525 shipped off racingjunk
Abruzzi rmvb Th400 with a brake for 1640
Paid 321.64 for the ls1 oil pan and everything that goes with it. Got it on and installed my kmember. Oh, bought my flexplate from jegs for 53.99
That’s where I’m sitting so far. The cervinis hood that’s on the car in one of those pics I picked up for $150 off Craigslist (1 stripped mounting nut needs fixed ). I don’t know if it will clear the truck intake or not yet. I got some bbk lower rear Lca’s for 103.42 after using my eBay bucks, I have Lakewood uppers that I took off the fox and also some maximum motorsports subframe connectors that came with the fox and I kept.
Plan on bolting everything together and setting the motor and trans down in the car this weekend

Yeah for sure.
With where the car is right now I’m in it for 4400. I’m trying to keep the total build cost right at 7k.
Turbo kit will be flipped truck manifolds with whatever cheap turbo I can get my hands on. I think it’s doable, it’s just holding out for good deals.

Thank you and your wife is one lucky lady to be sporting that soon!!
No ac for me. It’s just a car to beat on at the track and a small amount of street time .
Have a build thread on the wife’s car by chance?

Thanks man, trying my best to be patient and find them where I can.
Got the motor/trans sat down in the car today. Nothing special, been done a million times but seeing it in my car for the first time was awesome! Also I took a chance when installing my springs and cut a Coil off. Sits right at where I want it but it does have a lean to the left side. Maybe the **** *** stock shocks that’s still on it
And my hood fits...without the intake cover. I’m just happy it fits. Having the hood painted isn’t in the budget so I picked up some carbon fiber wrap to try. Hopefully it turns out good. I’m sure it won’t and I’ll end up throwing the hood across the garage lol

I’m going to send my harness and ecu next week.
I want to hear this motor run before I throw turbo **** at it and I am absolutely stumped when it comes to what I need to do fuel wise.
I know my car is returnless and I the truck fuel set up it a return style. Can someone point my in the right direction on this? I’ve been searching but coming up short on 99-04 ****

The stealth 340 drops right in the stock hanger and is good for quite a bit of horse power but u can also modify the hanger to hold two pumps I bought a 3/8 bulkhead 90 drilled a hole in the hanger top and made a return out of the stock fuel feed line and ran a 8an feed line from another hole I drilled with a 3/8 to 8an bulkhead piece it's super easy to do I can find pics if u need

If you have a pic that would be awesome but don’t go out of your way to get one if you don’t.
Are you running the vette regulator also? Never mind, a vette regulator would be used with returnless rails

That would be awesome for sure!! Where are you at in your build? I’m shooting for running driving tuned sometime this coming spring
I’m looking for anywhere between 500-600. Won’t be the fastest car out there but it will be a blast to drive and hit the track with. What are you shooting for, staying n/a, turbo, nitrous???

For now, stick with N/A stock motor 350 or so RWHP, id like to find a block and start building another motor for boost and have it in the car by Spring 2019 or sooner.

Good deal!
I contemplated a few times selling this LR4 and picking up a lq4. I seen a few on car-part for 1100-1200 within a hundred miles of me. I’ll just run what I got and turbo it since I grabbed it for so cheap.
We’ll have to get together this spring. I’m a little over an hour from Louisville so not bad at all

One vband flange welded on. I didn’t want to grind it smooth but I had a few beads work their way over to where the clamp lays rookie mistake, should have put the clamp on while welding. It may be fine right now as is, just the more I think on it the more I worry about it cracking. maybe I’ll prep the inside and weld that for some extra peace of my mind
