Talking 1970 nova 6.0 t56

Well its about time I start my build here.

my stats
25 years old
british columbia Canada
carpenter
balance between motocross nova and fishing

my cars stats
1970 nova
bought as a roller
ran for a year or so with a 355 and t10
lq4 with 19,000k
t56 ls6 clutch pack and flywheel

Bought the car as a roller in 2015 from campbell river. it was a shackled up sluggish drag car or so i heard. tossed a 355 and and t10 in and drove a couple summers. had alot of fun in it but couldnt get the carb fully dialed and was unhappy with the shifting of the t10. long story short i have a very low milage lq4 and t56 thats in the car currently just fighting cross member issues. i ordered the conversion cross member from cpp and it is 3'' too far back for my transmition to touch.

as far as suspension goes i have tubular a arms for the front i have yet to install and will be doing coil overs with the chicanne style through bucket system. and 4 link in the rear but that ill have to wait to next winter this winter is focused on the ls swap being completed.

awesome to be on this site and there is so many knowledgeable people and amazing builds cant wait for input on my car and to see others

thanks !

I have family in Campbell River... I love it up there.

I used a Speedtech crossmember when I swapped in the T56, and mine sits further back than usual due to the early LQ4 crankshaft.

You do realize that having a orange Nova means you have to go turbo, right? Its pretty much LS1tech law. Look it up in your membership contract. Its called the FroJoe law.

What size is your workshop, and is it attached to the house?

Thanks.

Turbo is definitely going to happen. But for now I want to just focus on getting it running and driving with a good tune in it and already have a set of long tubes . Car needs alot of suspension and brake work. so its safe to say turbo will be a down the road project. goal is to have it back together and driving for the summer.

shop is double wide by double long attached to the house. decent size shop but with two cars dirtbikes and wood working tools it gets small quickly.

ordering my fuel tank sending unit and pump from tanks inc and holley f body oil pan kit soon.

Ricks tanks's Restomod tank that use OEM pumps would look right at home in your Nova.
What brand of suspension do you have your sights set on? There are alot of 68-72 Novas on here, to get opinions on.

I look forward to seeing the transformation. Best of luck.

Wow you weren't kidding, that's practically the identical shade to mine. Nice to see bigger pics than just on Instagram.. car is a sweet starting point! Can't wait to take a pic of ours next to each other and explode LS1Tech/Instagram with orange BC car awesomeness.

my build was simular , 6.0 t56 I got it 90% done and knew I wouldn't be happy until I turbo'd it! the turbo build was the funniest part(time consuming) and power is awesome.
nice car btw....

Thanks for the postive feedback guys.

CPP is really starting to bug me with the run around on this crossmember. Going to just return it , anyone have any cheaper sugestions than the speedtech ? its super nice but fairly expensive once converted into funny money. was originally going to buy the hooker headers one but you have to use thier motor mounts apparently ( I'm running ITC billet adjustable)

Or I have been looking at my stock 4 speed crossmember and wondering if its worth just welding and fabbing it to fit ?
I have read through a couple builds that have made their own. just wanted to buy one and hope all the pinion angles are thought out already.

I have also been doing my research on pinion angle and from what It gather it doesn't matter so much if the car is level ? just bassicly the end of the tranmission and pinion flange is on the same degree or 1-2 degrees within?

and lastly I suspect the engine has been sitting for a while since I purchased from a wrecked vehicle. What is everyones opinion on pre oiling ?
I want to run some oil through it to be sure everything is not rusting or anything.
Some people seem to say crank it over with plugs and coils but I think the homemade engine preoiler seems to sound a bit better ?

You can make a pre oiler pretty cheap from a garden sprayer. Directions should be online. I would try the Holley/hooker crossmember and just shim it up or down to see if it will work with your mounts. Or just go with the Holley mounts. They were designed to work together . Tremec has a smartphone app that works great for checking driveline angles

Try modding the stock crossmember. You can trim or shim the trans mount to help with pinion angle. It just might be tough, as I believe the mount point on the trans is close to aligned with the subframe bushings.

and what are your IG handles? I've got clint, but haven't found joe or apparently his doppelganger.
