Default 5.3 swap obd help

Ok guys here’s my deal. I’m doing a 5.3, 4L60 swap into a 69 Impala convertible. What I’ve done is used a 2001 Silverado 2wd, for a donor. I’ve used the engine, transmission, wiring harnesses, instrument panel, steering column. I just unplugged or cut out the airbags, abs system, and the hvac system. Now I’ve got everything in and I thought working but my scanner won’t communicate? I’ve checked all fuses and relays. Does it need the abs or airbag modules to communicate?.

Not sure but there's absolutely a few things inside your powertrain control module (PCM) that will need to be deleted before your Impala will start - Vehicle Anti Theft System (VATS). You will also need at least one O2 sensor functioning to keep the check engine light out.

Do you have power to the PCM? Check it with a multimeter.

No, ABS and airbag systems shouldn't prevent the engine from starting, and as far as hp tuners goes, you can't access those systems anyway.

ABS does communicate with the PCM for traction control though, but again, shouldn't prevent it from working. It sounds like you have an electrical or sensor problem.

The only thing you need is an OBD2 port WIRED CORRECTLY with ground, 12v+, and one data line to the PCM. Thats it.

I have all the anti theft in place by ususing the factory column. Most all of the factory wiring is in place too. I have power to the scanner on but it won't communicate? I'll check the data wire today

Once you get em talking you can relink VATS or just delete it. You did a pcm swap so I'm assuming this might be a problem later.

Agreed going to check communication this afternoon. Thanks... Whats a good programmer for deleting EGR. Etc?

I use hp tuners for all of that. It pays for itself once you figure out the ins and outs of tuning. Well worth it imo. I'm sure efi live and others could do it too though.

Got my obd communication fixed. Broken wire in the loom. Got the fuel tank in and plumbed. Gave to build a cover then I'll see if it runs.. Thanks for the help !
