A closer look at the 98 up Camaro rear disc brakes on the Torino ends. As you can see the Chevy brake backing plate was slightly tweaked to work with the Torino ends. I think the Camaro brakes are perfect for what I want, big enough to stop way better than the stock drums and you can get parts anywhere. I paid $50 for a whole V6 Camaro non posi rear end just to get these brakes and the parking brake cables. Also note the nice work by Moser on the rear housing, nice thick axle tubes, billet ends and great welding and fabbed pieces. I have run Moser stuff for decades.

Between Moser, Strange, and Currie, you can't help but get a good rear axle!

The old rotten trunk metal all removed and ready to clean up and install the new metal. Also a view of the "pig snoot" sitting on it's new home a 31 Model A.
You can just see the Chevy 3.0 4cyl. Stock Model A 40 HP, flathead swap 65-100HP. This motor rated 130HP and is lighter than either of the others. Note the Edelbrock upper control arms and an aftermarket tubular lower arm (can't recall the brand, I'm in Sonoma and the Cutlass is near Austin). The trunk metal has all been welded in and pictures will follow.

Here are some pictures of work done on the Cutlass. I want a slick, smooth look under hood. As few wires showing as possible. The carbed LS3 will hopefully look like a ram air Olds motor ala 1969 or so with a dual snorkel air cleaner with ducts leading in like the originals. My first job after I returned from Vietnam and got out of the Marines, was working at a Chevy/Olds/Buick dealership in December 1968. Every day we worked on and sold GM muscle cars and I got to drive most of them. I always liked the 442s but new Z28s were fun too and I wound all of those out to 7000 every time I "test drove" one. Lots more coming as work continues slowly on the Cutlass.

Jarhead, that's awsome I love cutlass cars all years. Just another idea for the exhaust pipes. I like the 69-72 nova style dropping right behind the rear tires, pointed down. I even had the exhaust tech do the same with my 74 mgb with a carbed 4.8. anyways good luck and I know I'll keep watching.

Wow an MGB with an LS motor, must be quite a ride. I like that Nova exhaust pipe look myself but the Cutlass is going to have the exhaust run through the back up light holes in the bumper. I do not want any pipes showing at all anywhere, including hanging under the quarters. I am going to run the full length Hooker stainless headers but I am going to build my own system from the headers back. I have promised my wife that the Cutlass will be as quiet as her Lexus(she hates my Z28 with Flowmasters). As the project continues I'll see how my somewhat unusual solution to a performance exhaust, that will also be quiet, will work out.

I hope for your sake the Lexus has a well-worn exhaust on it, or aftermarket... lol You're gonna be running mufflers after mufflers to get as quiet as a stock Lexus...

Her Lexus is a 2018 with stock exhaust. Quiet as stock at idle and cruising, but she has agreed to somewhat louder at full throttle. But quieter than a new Z28 that we test drove. I will say this, nothing but stainless pipe will show when the car is on a lift, no mufflers at all in sight.

Let's see... Quiet as stock idle and cruise.... louder OK wide open..... NO mufflers in sight when on lift...
Just HOW do you propose accomplishing this total defeat of the laws of acoustics?? lol

Hey Smitty454, always nice to hear from another Marine Grunt. Two tours is enough, glad that you made it home.
First picture is 1967, that's me on the left with the M3 Greasegun, S/Sergeant Joe Aldretti on the right. About one mile south of Con Thien and 3 miles south of the DMZ. Me dreaming of driving a dragster some day.
Second picture is 10 years later, Kitty O'Neil in the car, Ky Michaelson standing in the go-go boots and me in the cutoffs and an afro hairdo. 7/7/77 at el Mirage lake. Kitty set the 500 meter record but missed on the quarter record with a best of 4.80 and a two way average of 5.02.
I last visited 3/4 in 2002 at 29 Stumps, a bunch of us old vets were invited out to chat with the troops before they deployed. I drove out from Texas. 3/4 was part of 7th Marines at that time.
As far as the exhaust system goes we will wait and see how close I come.

Starting look and part way through the firewall repair and slick up. Note the 1/2 inch fuel line. That piece of tubing between the frame horns was part of the NOS system when I got the car.
A separate fuel tank, loaded with race gas and a fuel pump was there used just when the NOS was on, there were two stages. The cross member supported all that and wasn't in the way so we left it in to strengthen the front a bit. Who knows, someday maybe something will sit there again. I do have a couple of complete plate NOS systems. Never hurts to have another 150 or so HP when you need it.

Four views of the Hooker LS swap headers and exhaust system right off Todd's page here on LS1. Beautiful workmanship, everything bolts right in and fits pretty well. This is the 64-67 setup like what is right for my Cutlass. The headers I love and I will fork over a grand for them and not bat an eye. Plenty of ground clearance and they will outlast me and everyone else here. However the rest of the system which costs almost a grand too just isn't for me. Look at the side view, the pipes drop down past the collectors and go into a X pipe which is the lowest point in the system. To me that is crazy! My system will also have mostly 3 inch stainless pipes similar to this but forget that X pipe under the tranny and driveshaft. The Hooker kit has nice mandrel bends and it looks great up over the axle and on out the back. These mufflers to me are something just waiting to get smashed by some speed bump and they also heat up the floorboards. So my system will look somewhat like this but no visible X pipe as the low point and no mufflers hanging down under the car.
So the plan is a quieter system, just as free flowing, much more cleaned up in appearance from below without mufflers being in the way.
Jarhead
PS, oh yes there just might be more than one size of exhaust tubing, several perhaps.
