Issue with ls1 cluster not working.
So I put an ls1 cluster from 00 z28 into my 87 mustang. I’ve got blinkers to function along with lights and all. However my voltage gauge, oil pressure just acts weird and starts at like 60psi and then maxes the gauge once running. As for temp gauge I’m not sure if it’s working yet cause I haven’t ran it long enough. Also the tach isn’t working! I tapped into the serial data wire on the obd2 port and ran it to the cluster. Also hooked up the other needed wires to get other things to work.
To make sure it’s not a cluster issue I pulled the working one out of my trans am and it did same thing. Then put the mustang cluster in my trans am and everything functioned as it should.
Forgot to add it’s a 99-02 5.3 harness.
Anyone know what’s going on?

I want to do something similar, so please let me know what you figure out. I’m dropping a 5.3 from an 02 Silverado into a 78 Vette. The wiring harness is from an 02 WS6 already reflashed for the 5.3. My question is whether the ecu will still work with a cluster from an 01 TA? Good luck

As for my mustang cluster I use this one on page 2:

I’ve got the power wire hooked up and the blinkers and high beam light.
As for tach wire, an ls1 cluster doesn’t have a tach wire it’s supposed to use the serial data wire from obd2 port.

I just installed a 2000 Camaro cluster into my lq4 2001 mustang. I had a 2000 6.0 harness. I tapped the serial wire and that gives you Fuel, coolant temp and Tach. Battery just picks the signal up from its source so as long as there is 12+ volts that should be fine. Speedo gets a signal from red connector pin 50 I believe. Oil pressure comes straight from the sensor on the block behind the intake. And just like you I ran my fuel level sensor into the pcm and recalibrated it to work correctly.
If you have the oil pressure wired correctly I'm guessing the sending unit is bad. It's pretty common especially on an old sensor. The voltage is baffling but combined with the tach maybe its a bad ground? Let the coolant come up to temp and see if its working. If its just the tach left that's acting up something from the pcm must need to be changed? I'd double check all your wiring. Are you saying the Tach comes on when hptuners is connected or that the tach in the scanner of hptuners is displaying a reading?

So I never got this figured out. I did find out once we did a bench pcm tune that my pcm is out of a 2000 Tahoe. I know the 2000 is the bastard year and it may not carry the info needed to run the cluster is my guess. Thinking about changing pcm to a newer 01-02 or just find an fbody pcm.

WOW. So glad you got it working! As you found, few simple boo-boos can mess things up! Have a joyous Christmas!

That’s great to hear. Damn wiring gremlins are the worst. Glad you got it figured out.
