Default Bad Fuel Pressure Regulator caused broken rod & hole in block. Fixable ?

I completed by 4.8 swap in my 1998 S10. However, a bad fuel pressure regulator dumped fuel directly in to the intake from the vacuum hose which ended up hydro locking and a broken rod & a hole in the block.

The 4.8 has less than 50,000 actual miles and wondering if I can save it. I need some advise on welding up this hole. The hole in in lower part of the block and not in the coolant area.

I was thinking about getting small piece of cast iron, the size of this hole and welding it up. I can probably get a small chunk off LS block from my local pic-a-part!

I have a MIG gas welder. Is it possible to weld this?

Thanks

Waid

Anything is possible, but not worth it. You're better off finding a new short block.

Agree with above, 4.8s are dirt cheap. I would find another one.

I will get a piece of chunk of cast iron from pic-a-part and try to weld it and see what happens. I have nothing to lose!
