Default 67 Chevelle trans crossmember/driveshaft clearance

Hello, I have a 67 Chevelle with a built 5.3L backed by a th400. I also have a Ford 9”. I had a driveshaft made and ended up having to go with a 4” aluminum DS due to the length and critical speed.

I installed the driveshaft and it clears the DS tunnel. Or so I thought. I took my friend along on a drive and I’m guessing the additional weight drops the car just enough to where if I hit a bump I can hear the driveshaft yoke hit the tunnel.

When I installed my motor and transmission, I installed the tranny crossmember so that it was sitting on the inside of the frame rail. Is this correct? Or should it be bolted on the bottom of the frame (basically doing this would lower the rear of the tranny). If I went that route, I’d probably be able to get just enough clearance for the DS so I don’t have to beat the hell out of my driveshaft tunnel. Obviously if i lowered the tranny, I’d make sure the driveshaft angle was corrected.
Thanks for any input.

Getting ready to dyno tune this thing and I’d like to work out the bugs

If you are using the Energy Suspension 1142 transmission mount that everyone typically uses, you can use their 1158 mount instead for a small drop in height of about 3/8" if I remember correctly.

went out to the garage and measured the existing mount I have which is 2”.. must be the 1142 mount.. I ordered the 1158 and it’ll be here today. I will install it over the weekend and post on here if it works. Cross your fingers.

thanks!
