Default 1978 Aerocoupe Caprice

Hey guys,

I'm about to put a 5.3 into a 1978 Caprice. I've been looking for write ups on B bodies, however most of them are several years old. Since LS swap techniques and parts have changed so fast in the last 2-3 years, I'm curious if anyone knows of any threads that are more recent that would list out the parts needed and exactly what works.

I'd like to have all the parts that I'm going to need purchased ahead of time, but I'd also like to know what's the best current solution so that the least amount of modification is necessary.

Thanks,
Brandon

Thanks for the response. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Is there any other thread on the forum that would be appropriate for this question?

Well, I have found a 5.3 and a 6.0. Now I have to decide which one. I want more low end torque but without sacrificing mileage. I'm not really concerned with high rpm horsepower or torque because I don't race.

Even the 5.3 will blow the doors off ANYTHING that came in your car from the factory by a long shot!. And get great economy while its at it. So the 5.3 will do a good job for you, but if you want a little more grunt off the line, the 6.0 is your choice.

I would go 6.0 for sure. You'l have more head choices for later in case you do decide you want more power. Trust me, 400 horse can get old fast.

Good call on that Tusky! That way the door is even open to putting on a complete LS3 top end if desired. Actually I think he should keep his eyes peeled for an L99 or LS3, but is likely getting the 6.0 for far less than either of those two. Just a thought....

6.2 motors are still holding up high in money in resale value. My only thing against going that route.

A 6.0 with a LS3 top end and a decent cam will make 550 horse at the crank easily. I'm running this setup now and I must say it's a handful for a car that's actually street driven.

On your MPG deal that's go depend on alot of variables. Tire height, rear gear, cam, tranmission, etc..... it's just not cubic inches.

OP, you are tugging at my heart strings with this build. I had a blue '78 Aero in High School. I love these cars. Best of luck in the build, looks like a fun project!

I also vote 6.0. Mated with some 3.23 gears and 27" tires and you'll need plastic surgery to get the grin off your face!
