Default Aftermarket ECU Choice

I am getting close to wanting to get my ECU sorted for my Cayman/TT LSA/Graziano build. I had a proEFI on my Porsche and loved the way it ran, but I wasn't exactly happy with the owner of proEFI and don't want to go down that road again. Cost is not a major concern, but MoTec is more than I want to spend :-p

I would like somebody that is user friendly and has good online documentation, preferably something that has been run enough on a 58x LS that I can pretty much hit the key and it will fire (basic setup is either available as a baseline tune or easy to get there). I would prefer to have a stand alone harness ready to rock (once less thing to make) but not a deal breaker.

I have been eyeing the MS3 variants, also ECUmaster(local to me.. but can only do wasted spark on a v8), Holly Dominator and Emtron (friend is becoming a dealer so preferred pricing and should have a good factory connection). I would honestly probably go with the Dominator b/c of their LS support but they won't talk to AIM (I am using an MXS strada dash) nor the chassis (Porsche CANBUS). The AIM can talk to the porsche chassis. I could add secondary sensors but that is kind of hack (water, RPM, oil, and so on for the AIM and wheel speed for the dominator)

At a high level these are the things that interest me:

Run 58x LSX motor w/ DBW
Traction Control
Boost control by MPH and / or Gear
CAN com with AIM MXS strada
CAN com with Porsche chassis (wheel speed, etc)
Flex Fuel
WB with closed loop (similar to safe guard strategies)
Safe guard strategies (FP not at target (MAP vs FP)) lean, over boost, etc.
Multiple fuel pump control
Extra I/O if required
PWM fan control (multiple coolers, radiator, etc)
8 chan ignition
Good support (forums, tech line, manual, etc) I have enough problems/stuff to make and fabricate so I don't want to nerd out too much getting the car running and tuned. I also don't want to fork over thousands to have somebody do it all for me, although I will consider hiring an expert to help if local. Local support would be a plus.

The Holley Dominator can check off just about all of your boxes...

If they talked to AIM Canbus, I would go that direction. (Porsche->AIM->ECU canbus). I was shocked they don't considering how popular AIM is in racing, esp road racing. I wish the AEM / engine lab Infinity didnt get such a bad wrap as it seems to have the features too

I would even be willing to help them test it, but my emails with them have been short at best basically telling me to **** off when I have asked them anything.

It looks like AIM supports a vast number of ECM's on their website. It might be worth asking if they could work with Holley to get it mapped out for the Dominator. I know you can connect a Racepak dash to a Dominator and make it work.

Ya, and since holley told me to **** off I wont be able to have the Holley read from the AIM, but that is WAY less of a problem.

I already contacted AIM. I may learn to sniff and decode canbus on my own

Is there still an issue with possibly bricking the ECU if you upgrade the software from Holley?

There is an issue with any ECU when flashing you can brick it. Most have the ability to hard reset with a jumper, signal generator, etc.

Soooo AIM handles the CAN input. I can't talk directional, but I can read it!

So that is the direction I am going. so two question

1) Anything else missing from that list before I pull the trigger?
2) I assume I can use a 5 position potentiometer and tie it to a boost target table? I want more settings than just base+scramble.

1) not really sure. My set-up is pretty tame by your standards...
2) I know Holley makes a multi-tune key that allows the loading of different tunes before start-up.

Jordon, what ECU did you end up going with?
Did AIM / Holley ever come around and play nice together yet?

How's that motec treating you? I'm having a similar dilemma since holley's CAN system is no good. So far I am looking at Haltech 2500, Maxxecu Race and Ecumaster Black.
