Engine OK to sit on ground: damage to oil pan?
#22
Yup and it worked for this shipment. I'm sure there are also people out there with broken oil pans as a result, but considering we are just talking about setting the engine on the ground gently with a hoist I think life is good.

After I get these blasted broken bolts out, I'm going to be mating the engine and trans together outside of the car. Right now I"ve got the motor suspended on a wooden stand where the pan isn't touching. WIth what I've read here I feel confident enough to sit the motor down still and slide the trans to it long enough to bolt it together. I'd like to tighten the converter bolts while it's out of the car, but I'm not sure how that's going to work while hanging from the engine hoist.

Don't overthink it. Just don't drop it.
Tire easy for temporary or transport. Perfect for a truck ride taking it home.
For garage floor I use a 6x6 block to balance the front and a used towel for a Charmin soft barrier to the concrete floor. The rear of the pan basically is on the floor.
