70 Chevelle LS swap
Hi all,
im new to the forums and very eager to learn, I have a 1970 Chevelle with a 350ci sbc and I知 looking to put an LS into the car, id like to make 500-600 hp and similar torque numbers but I壇 like to do the build from a junkyard motor and keep it NA. What block should I be looking to start with?

Look for an LQ4 or LQ9 in a 3/4 ton pickup from 2001- about 2006. VERY common, it's an iron block aluminum head 6.0L workhorse. The LQ9 will have higher compression and a little more cam. Lots of potential in these engines.

Would the stock internals be good for forced induction further down the road or would I need to upgrade? What tranny would be best to handle that much horsepower (preferably with overdrive)

I dont want to be an *** but theres about a billion posts that will answer all of your basic questions. Just use the search function. If we are talking NA then there is no replacement for displacement. Go with 6.0 LQ4 or an LQ9 if you can find one. If you want that magical 600hp figure you are going to sacrifice some driveability.

Smitty is right. Search around here and you will find whatever you need. But to answer your tranny question, a 4L80E will handle anything. You might find one behind the engines I mentioned above.

NO hassle, man. It's just that you'll get further ahead doing a focused search and getting more of the answers you are seeking.

I知 not dead set on a budget yet as I知 going to keep putting money aside for this project. As of now I知 thinking around 5 grand for the motor and transmission but I will be doing all the labour myself aside from possibly getting a local machine shop to do some work. The budget is definitely not set in stone though!

You can get a motor and trans for way less than that, but as mentioned this has been done a million times (which is a good thing). There really isn't much to figure out at this point so if you read a dozen or so of the 400 Chevelle build threads you can likely learn pretty much everything.
