Default GM Perf 376/480 accelerator ped shielding wire

I have a GM Performance LS3 376/480 with a matching engine control system/harness. Doing the installation, someone cut off the accelerator harness connector to shorten the length of the wire. I bought a new wiring pig tail with the and spliced it in with professional system splicers and heat shrink-ed each. However as I was about to put it together, I noticed there was this soft metal mesh like insulated wire that goes around all six of the accelerator connector wires. That shielding was cut off too. I called the GM Perf technical line (1-866-453-4123) and got to talk to a guy who went and looked at a GM harness to see what I was talking about. He said his harness didn't have this shielding and then concluded that it didn't matter (to have this shielding or not). I also looked at several aftermarket suppliers of custom harnesses on line and they don't have this on their harnesses....anyone know what the shielding is for and have an opinion on its relevancy? (note - to me, this shielding looks different than the shielding that is on the know sensors and crank sensors for heat protection)

Thanks for any assistance.

Call the guys at PSI Conversions or Brendan at lt1swap.com - ask if they shield their custom harnesses.

Probably a carryover item from a blueprint of a production vehicle harness they modified/copied. No worries.

All that being said, it wouldn't be a terrible idea to ground the shielding.

The pedal leads we make are 10 inches to 20 feet long. Shielding is not needed. Steve
