Also, relying on a project car to get you to and from work/school/whatever every single day can really wear on you. Because inevitably it will break down, or you'll get stuck waiting for parts. Or you will start something that is supposed to take two hours and it ends up taking two days. One more thing, although you really have to be careful, you can get great deals on someone else's project. I see quite a few of them out there where someone has done most of the hard work, but just ran out of time/$/energy before finishing. If the work has been done right, this can put you on a path to still having a hand in some of the work, without being overwhelmed with doing all of the work.
Very Good advice! I will agree about someone else's project. I bought mine a couple weeks ago as a finished (are they ever finished) project for about twice your budget. I had put a WTB ad on 944hybrids and got a few responses including the car I bought. Another person responded with a car in your budget range that I might buy too because the price is right and 90% of the work is done. So they are out there.

Having the capability to make 400HP does not mean bad MPG. Late Corvettes with 400-500HP get 30MPG highway all he time. Actually MAKING and USING that much power DOES cause bad MPG, but at that time nobody cares...

430hp in a 3000 lb “brick” - routinely gets 20-21 mpg around town and 25-28 on the highway. 400hp in that Land Bruiser will be a different story.

Around town street driving I've noticed no difference in fuel economy (944 LS2, used to be 944 Turbo). However, on track the difference has been eye opening. I used to arrive at the track with just over half a tank and that would last me the day with enough to get home (90L tank, usually I do 4 or 5 sessions of 30 minutes each). This past Saturday I was getting on it more as I get more comfortable with the car and I had to leave at lunch to get more gas for the afternoon!

That's a great point. I still find those numbers kind of remarkable, things have come a long way in that regard, it's like having your cake and eating it too.

That's awesome, thanks for posting. Van is a super guy. He was a driver on our team in a Lemons race at Nelson Ledges a few years back (in a 944 of course!). Has an excellent YT channel as well with some very helpful maintenance how to videos. https://www.youtube.com/user/vsvenson

Engine swaps are fun and the amount of knowledge you will gain through the process will be priceless. On that note the amount of $$$, plan on spendint that full $7000 and then some to do this right.

You could just snag a decent condition cheap c5 corvette for under $10k if you keep your eyes out for one. You will get the engine, brakes, and suspension, bam done.

Engine swaps arent for everyone. If your doing it only for the end result then I advise not doing it. If your doing it because you want to go through the hundreds of hours of labor and hundreds of hours of research to complete it, then hell ya. Thats honestly the mentality that is needed to get it done and be happy/not frustrated through the process.
