Default L33 LS6 cam?

i have an 5.3 L33 wanting to install a LS6 GM#12565308 cam, will this be just a drop with all stock heads, lifters, springs and push rods? Will I have to tune it? and change converter? 2005 Chevy Silverado Z71 4x4. Daily driver

Unless you are getting the 5308 cam and springs for free and the engine is already out of the truck, not a big enough upgrade to be worth all the effort.

You'll need longer pushrods, 5308 has a smaller base circle...

Old L33 is coming out, L33 replacement is getting delivered. Didn't want to dig too deep into pockets for a L33 upgrade. Truck is a daily driver, off road, camping and pulling trailer. Figured 5308 cam would be just over enough hp/tq than stock, any suggestions or guidance will be appreciated.

You don't want a ls6 cam in a 5.3

Is that the EARLY LS6 cam or LATE one? The early one actually works quite well in a 5.3, but the late one (hopefully the one mentioned above) is lousy in that the low end just goes away.

Just stick with the stock L33 cam, it works better for what you want than an LS6 cam. Look at the camshaft test done by HRM a few years back. They tested EVERY factory cam in a 5.3 and a few aftermarket cams. If your new L33 is running good don't waste time changing cams, your L33 was designed for exactly what you are doing and you will not have to change the tune. Spend the money on a good exhaust or cold air intake.

advise is reasonable, makes sense jarhead. you are correct a CAI and headers and new exhaust will be suffice. will go that route. just replaced rear end tru trac 4:11 gears RPO option on truck.

With that being decided, no cam. Now any advise on headers exhaust? headers long or short? no headers? new/no catalytic converters? true dual, x pipe? Stock L33 already have CAI

We put cheapy ebay headers/ls6 valve springs, 1.9 speed master roller rockers and 243s(stock heads cracked) on my uncles 5.3 4x4 truck and picked up .4 at the track.

could easily pick up more tho. Still has the factory cat back, stock intake tract. On the the stock tune also besides we adjusted the shift points so he doesn't have to shift it manually anymore.

Biggest difference is the truck now goes up hills with the converter locked in od to where it woukd unlock the converter before and actually seemed to have picked up about 1 mpg.

+1 jarhead that was a good test.

if you're looking for more out of your 5.3 cam motion has a nice drop in cam for them.

This is exactly what I did.
L33 put the 5308 cam and blue springs in. Now I read ( although a bit late) that I’d need longer push rods any ideas as to the correct length? Heads are still off of the block and will be a while before final assembly.
Could someone chime in please

I used 7.425" and they were just right...you really should measure, some say that 7.400" will work, but I would measure.
