1987 Chevette LS1 swap
#203
Got the Chevette back out last weekend and I got the front end tore back apart already. Figured I needed to replace the bushings in the control arms then get an alignment done. I'm also thinking about putting a cam in it soon. I was thinking about a BTR stage 3 or something from Texas Speed.

No pics, but I got all the bushings changed in the front and just waiting to get some time when the weathers decent so I can get an alignment done. I planned to take it in last Friday but it was snowing and raining so that didn't happen. Yesterday it was back up into the mid 50's so I figured I'd work on buffing the paint back to life. Hit it with a clay bar and then a buffer.
Motors coming apart this week for a BTR LS1 Stage 3 cam. I'm going to pull the heads and put some new lifters in it while I'm at it. I'm also going to put a Melling 10295 pump in.

Found some cracks in the flexplate in the ring gear next to all the torque converter mounting holes while the motor was out. Didn't realize this was such a common problem until I did some search on the forum. Picking up a new one tonight then finally start putting this back together.

I spent the past few days working on the interior. I spent most of the time getting the back seat to fit. I also put some heat insulation on the firewall and floor. Made a huge difference on the amount of heat in the car.

I got the 4 link brackets welded on my crossmember last night and decided to check and see how straight the rear was before I cut the ends off. The one side was about perfect, but this side was a bit off. I think I'm going to straighten it before I try to narrow it so when I go to weld the ends back on everything lines up.
Thanks for sharing the pics on your fab work. I tend to gravitate towards fabrication stuff and really enjoyed seeing some of your process.

Thanks. Yeah, shows how much I like this thread that it got me to post for the first time. I pop in from time to time to see what's going on in LS world. My first stop is usually Conversions & Hybrids because I love the out of the ordinary stuff people are swapping LS's into.

Can I ask what jig you used to narrow the rear end?? Is that the Mittler set-up? I have the Alston but it has the short bar. I'm thinking about getting the longer bar.

The only part that was bought premade was the 4 link kit with the 4 link crossmember. They came from Chris Alston's Chassisworks.
