Default E30 in a non flex fuel 4.8l

There is a blender pump local to me that offers E30 (30% ethanol, 70% gasoline). At 94 octane it would seem to be a good alternative to high priced 91 octane premium gas. I am curious if the ECM can make adjustments for the higher ethanol content? I estimate that E30 has 90% of the BTUs of gas.....so the injector duty cycle would need to increase ~10%. Obviously the ECM can handle 10% ethanol......but I wonder if 30% ethanol is beyond its capability.

A little background.....the previous owner of my car had it dyno tuned on premium gas (4.8l with a mild cam).

The ethanol would dictate somewhat higher fuel consumption, and your engine does not have the flex fuel sensor to tell the difference. I would not do it.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but what % of ethanol can a modern GM ECU handle? Here in CA, the gasoline is currently 10% ethanol. What if that changes to 15 or even 20% over time?

It's already making adjustments to some extent.....when running E10 vs 100% gasoline. The ECM must compensate based off of the oxygen sensor reading......the real question is where does the ECM reach its limit as to its ability to adjust injector duty cycle?

That's no hijack at all. This is the exact question that I'm trying to find an answer for with this thread.

All new GM vehicles are rated to handle 15% ethanol. They are tested much higher than that, but they are approved to 15% because the US is trying to go to E15 already. YMMV (literally) but E15 will be fine in most newer vehicles.

I put E30 to E40 in my 93 only car once in a while. Just to mess around because Im curious.

I don't use narrowbands though. I don't let the ECU make any corrections.
Instead I open the injector globalmap and make them "smaller". This way it enriches the entire fuel map and doesn't screw the trans-shifting and all the other scaling variables.

If you try this and don't make corections in the ECUfueling somehow for WOT,
it doesn't matter if the ecu can handle fuel trims not because I dont think the narrowbands LTFT has any affect on PE and BE (power and boost enrichments are static)
so it might drive fine after 'learning' but will be lean at WOT and POP goes the engine
