There are other options that have a **** that can be dash mounted which allows for variable rates of power assist.

It uses a different ESP unit that sandwiches between the steering wheel and a manual steering box/rack. Quite popular with the antique tractor community and 60's mustang group.

Totally different than electric hydraulic pump. Fraught with all sorts of challenges on many applications if feel, sensitivity, self centering, etc. are needed along with a reduction in effort....and the “assist level” **** doesn’t fix all that. Be careful if you go down that path.

Agreed there are other options. This thread is for Borgeson box powered by electric power steering pump.

Default Update

I've got over a 1000 miles on the Borgeson/Volvo power steering setup and it's been flawless. Not a single hiccup or regret. Never even added any fluid.

Pumps are less than $50 at the local u-wrench-it and you only real cost is the high pressure hose including fittings. Thats if you actually need them. These things dont really wear out; the fluid just needs drained and refilled like any other power steering system. I generally merge the pump hose with the hose coming off the steering box/rack with a union and have the local belt and hose business crimp them. Its much cheaper and easier that way.

Keep the pump side fitting with the compressor when you pull it. Pump cost me $30. The Borgeson side fittings cost me about $20. Bought 25 feet of tubing for $30. You need a tool to inverted flare (if I remember correctly) the ends but you'd need that for any PS setup you do anyway unless you pay for custom hoses which could cost more. I ran an extra loop of tubing to act as a PS cooler to a small extent. Don't know if was necessary.
