Default Need to wire the dash gauges to the standalone harness

I swapped a 5.3 into my firebird it’s 1989 I have all pictures of the engine harness and pictures of wires from what it looks like the dash they’ve been cut and some look messed up here’s pics I’ll try to post them in order from engine to wires that’s been there, I basically jus need help to identify which is which and where they connect to and what needs to be cut. I had the engine harness custom made and didn’t come with instructions and was never labeled

Get a wiring schematic that matches the 89 car, and the 5.3 harness/ engine/ vehicle you have.
Sort the wires from those schematics, and label accordingly.
The car dash gauges may not work with the 5.3 sensors.

Do your current gauges run off of the BCM?

I kept the gauges stock and I seen the computer for the inside (not for the engine) on the passenger side when I was putting the whole dash and stuff together

When I did my 87 everything on the passenger side was old motor/ecm related and not needed. Driver side is where my harness plugged into car. Was your car originally a tpi or tbi? If I remember correctly only the tpi cars were basically plug and play once you sourced all the wires. Pocket was the guy who did my custom harness. Not sure if hes around anymore or not. Can check on thirdgen.org. I highly recommend going there as specific info on your swap. On a side note speedhut is doing 20% off right now so you can always get better gauges if you cant figure it out.

So, on my '96 swap, I have temp and oil sensors that match the gauges in addition to sensors that are correct for the ECM.

On the newer vehicles there's only single sensors that feed the ECM, which then controls the gauges over the data bus.

Do some searches through this forum. I know that I have at least once detailed gauge by gauge how to make them work. Basically add the oil pressure and water temp senders from the 89 to your 5.3 (I'd suggest oil pressure into a port on an aftermarket cover plate for the oil cooler lines, and the water temp into a adapter plug in the side of the block where the block heater goes, or drill/tap your passenger head location).

Fuel and volts should be no issue.

Tach you might need a converter, since it will look like a 4 cyl output from the LS computer. Speedo you just need to replicate how it was fed before hand.

I think the only wire you'd need from the LS is the tach wire.
