24 tooth vs 58 tooth; differences and any advantage? Asking for a friend who happens to own an 01 SS, he may go to an LS427, it can be built with a 24 tooth or 58 tooth whatever that means, I have NO idea. I know the ECU for an 01 f-body requires a 24 tooth reluctor wheel something or other? Any advantages to an 01 ECU vs ls3 ECU?
The ls1 pcm reads 24 crankshaft reluctor and 1x cam signal, the 58 crankshaft reluctor and 4x camshaft signal can be used with the ls1 pcm if you use Lingenfelter TRG-002 58x-24x Crank Sensor Trigger Conversion Module
There really are way too many variables to answer your questions. But I'll say that if he is planning on running the stock ECU, he's much better off having a 24x reluctor wheel installed. He'll also need an LS2 1x front cam sensor conversion to make it all run properly. It would make for a much more reliable setup.
