Fuel pump issues

Default Fuel pump issues

I swapped a 4.8 4l60e into an 87 square body 4x4 put a cheap quantum 255 pump in the tank it lasted a little over a month no problems and then had hard start and sometimes no start problems replaced with walboro 255 pump that only lasted 6 days and left me set I took pump out of 2000 chevy truck I pulled motor and tranny out of for swap and put that on my sending unit and seems to be fine so far I had a 14 guage wire run from relay to pump on first to since then I put 12 guage wire in from relay to pump any thoughts on problem would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you're grounds are clean and have good contact.

How much gas do you keep in the tank? These pump motors use the fuel as a coolant and with small amounts of fuel in the tank they get hot and sometimes seize up.

heat AND sucking air shorten life. Sounds like you put in an entire 2000 fuel bucket in your 87 tank? That should work...GM designed that bucket for 5.3/4.8 engines. You wind need a baffle either. I run have run my tank down to 1/8 (LS1 fuel bucket) with no issues.

The truck was 3/4 full both times it happened just seems odd that it went threw 2 pumps .

Are you running the stock engine-mounted vacuum regulator? Do you have a return line for the fuel?
