Default A/C compressor clutch not engaging

I have a Vintage Air set up with my LS and I am running a new Holley Low mount compressor. I am getting 12 volts from the Vintage Air going out to the Trinary switch. But no power going out to from the trinary switch. I even swapped the Binary switch back in.

I am trying to make sure everything works before trying to charge the system for the first time after doing the LS swap. (had VA on previous SBC 350 in the car and it worked good)

Is the system not sending power out of the Trinary switch due to no pressure on the system? I bought a couple can of R-134 to try to give the system a charge, but not sure about by passing the Trinary switch and running 12 volts to the compressor. (I did try this to verify is the clutch engaged, and it did)

The trinary switch will cut the power if the pressure gets too high or too low. With no charge, it will never allow the compressor to turn on, that's its job.

Thats kinda what I figured, it was the only thing that makes sense.

The next question is, in order to get it charged, do I wire the compressor to get the 12 volts in order to be able to charge it?

Wire it ready to go. Then start the engine, and start feeding the refrigerant in. Once there is enough to activate the switch, the compressor will kick on.

Yep!! Sorry I didn't make that clear, but I thought within the context of this thread that would be self-evident

Misunderstanding..I ↑↑↑ to signal what you said to do.

Once OP gets everything connected up on the car and running with the A/C set to max you should start noticing the compressor cycling once the refrigerant is introduced into the system..If still not cycling after the first can I'd start looking at the switch or worse the compressor itself.

Sounds like you are doing this yourself? These systems need to be completely vac'd down before you add refrigerant. You can't just put it together and fill it.

That's certainly the right thing to do but it can be charged without pulling a vacuum. I replaced the orifice tube and all the seals for the compressor and lines due to a leak and I just recharged it myself without pulling a vacuum to draw any moisture from the system. That was almost a year ago and still no leaks. Now it may get a little colder than what it is had I pulled a vacuum but its pretty cold.

Definitely not the way to go but to each his own. Your system pressures probably aren't ideal now, but at least it's working.
