Yes, I have a new cover on the way but wondering if I should do more. Saw on another site that it may help oil pressure.

Some guys tap the tops of the towers and put Allen head screws in them. The O-rings can seep oil, but it's not a major issue.

The LH8 2009 Colorado 5.3L (and probably other engines) is a gen 4 block but did not have DOD, so the cover has the o-rings on the bottom to seal off the passages. Tapping and plugging those holes kist seems like extra, and unnecessary work.

yes, i dont understand why you would spend all that time and effort with plugs and screws when you can just install a cover thats designed to block off the ports.

having dealt with this exact issue & therefore having to rebuild the engine twice. I would HIGHLY recommend plugging the towers. BTR (other sites too) sells a kit for this exact reason.
