Had a friend give me a LQ4 6 liter block out of a 2001 pick up. Planning to build a single turbo set up to drop into my 72 Chevelle. Most builds I have found all show them using stock internals or crank at least. Unfortunately the block I was given is missing pretty well everything. I was just curious as I started buying parts, what does everyone recommend when doing after market crank? I've found some good piston and rod setups and I have good research on a cam. Also, what does everyone do when you have no ECM to start with? Been a long time carb guy with this Chevelle and this turbo LQ4 build has me pretty excited but I'm starting off a tad in the dark. Thanks (picture of the car getting the swap)
This will depend how cheaply you want to build it and how much of you you’re willing to do yourself. Your answers will greatly define the answers you get
I would get a OEM crank , forged rods and 2618 forged pistons. Finds LS3 heads and a OEM LS3 intake assembly
have the machine shop check the block before you buy too many parts (mainly pistons). Have the rings gapped for boost. ECM. I would go HOLLEY Terminator X. Or Max if you plan on running a 4L80e. B&M sells on for under 3k or grab on from a u-pull it yard Holleys turbo manifolds should work great and ease the fab time
Again..... we need to know how much you are willing to do yourself
