Default ls1 steering column in 1st gen

I have the opportunity to puchase a steering column from an LS1 camaro. I figure mounting it shouldn't be too hard, but my concern is with the wiring. Does anyone know whether this would be too hard, or possibly make the swap easier?
Thanks

shouldn't be too hard . the airbag and Vats won't work but the most of it like the turn signals , headlight hi/lo beam would. intermittent wipers and cruise control wouldn't either. you'd need the various modules for that.

I was planning on using an LS1 wiper motor so hopefully that won't be too bad. But I didn't get a good look at the column before, do the LS1 columns have the lights on them or are they on the dash too?
Also, why wouldn't VATS work?

you would need the PCM to enable it. the lights aren't in the column.

I actually purchased an LS1 column with the hope of using it in my '68 Camaro.
It does not fit, for several reasons . . .
The column is somewhere around 6" longer. It has a different shaft on the end, that would need to be cut off, and then you would have to attach a rag-joint somehow. The mounting bracket is different, you would need to cut it off and use the original one. The connector block interferes with the pedal bracket too.

I suppose with enough time, effort, modifications it might fit, but it's not worth it imo. Too bad though, a tilt + column wipers, high beams for $35
hope that helps

Thanks for the response Ryan!
I figured that I'd have to weld on the old mounting bracket. I also had planned having to modify the shaft to mate with the steering box.
I didn't know that the column was 6" longer though. I wonder how you would tackle that?
Also what is a connector block? and do you think that it would be difficult to modify that to make it work with a 1st gen?

Thanks again to the response.

what I meant by the connector block was the terminals for the ignition and such. they are mounted part way down the column and have linkages connecting them to the ignition and hi/low beam switches. I suppose they could be relocated, but you would have to move the linkages too

the overall length of column was 6" longer, some of that was in the shaft, which would be shortened. I figured that by the time I got a rag-joint on it, it would end up being 3-4" longer. I'm not a very big guy, so with the right steering wheel, it might have been ok
