Yes they are both cathedral port intakes. The fuel rails, evap stuff, etc. will all be different however.

FYI: the LS2 intake manifold is one of the worst LS manifolds ever made.

If your conversion has hood clearance, any of the truck manifolds are better than the ls2, and in some ways better than the ls6. If you are worried about how ugly they are, there are several threads showing how people have shaved and painted them into nice looking pieces.

I went the LS2 intake for my 5.3L build (LS4 - which truly has a terrible intake) and have been really happy with it.
Yes the LS2 is down about 15 hp vs. the LS6 on a 6.0L engine at the 480 hp level, but the difference on a 5.3L build will be less, unless you plan to spin it past 7K rpm.
The LS2 is a very clean looking intake and I kept the LS4 fuel rails and used the LS2 Injectors and Throttle body.

The 5.3, being .7 liter smaller than the LS2, likely does not tax the manifold's full potential, thereby making the LS2 intake not as bad a choice for smaller engines. Does this hold water??

You can't ask a logical question like that and expect the internet to give you a good answer haha

That said, I'd say that is a reasonable conclusion that the LS2 intake would work well on a smaller cube motor. Another good choice OP is the Dorman LS2 intake. They are ridiculously priced new ($921) but I've seen a few used ones go for about the same as an LS6 intake.
