Default 79 firebird wiring for 5.3 ls

Hi, I’m having some trouble understanding what these connect to, it’s not for theso where does it go?


I understand one is an o2 sensor otherwise I have no clue


also it send my oil pressure sensor isn’t the same so what do I do? There is also two broken connections, I think one is for the ground (on right) don’t know what the one in the left is

If you aren’t using the factory oil pressure gauge, the sender wiring is not needed for anything, as the ECU doesn’t care if you have pressure or not.

. All of the black wires need to be grounded to the rear of the head. Make sure they have good terminals and are sturdy or you will have issues. As for the other inquiries, it would be helpful to have pictures of these wires and connectors.

i definitely will as I am confused and don’t want to ship anything just yet, will do when I get home

So here’s all those connections that I am confused about (the old o2 sensor is still with the harness so ignore that one)

square 4 pin plugs are probably rear o2 sensors (not needed) but the gray trapezoid plug is front o2 and required.

I can't be sure, but I think that's the AC compressor clutch connector.

they seems to go back further than the transmission and don’t connect to any engine part and it seems like there’s another rear o2 sensor so I think I’m just gonna chop all those off

If this is your first LS swap rodeo you might be better off buying an aftermarket harness. Not saying you won't figure it out the stock harness because tons of folks have.
I buy the harness and ECM from one supplier with a base tune to get it running.
Your stock 79 gauges aren't compatible with the LS ECM. You can buy an adapter for the oil pressure port but sometimes the 79 or aftermarket sender are too big in diameter and hits the intake. I typically drill and tap the cover right above the oil filter for the oil pressure sender.

You'll want to go to lt1swap.com and check out the pin outs for your harness. Looks to be a truck harness. Follow the pins back to the main ECU connectors and find it on the Pin out list provided on the site.

If youre in America, just get on Amazon and get a ready to go harness for $178. No need to go through all of this hassle just to re work a gen 3 harness anymore lol

I’ve been looking there and it’s a great website, I think the curiosity gets the better of me and I just want to know what they connect to, I doubt it’s anything useful however
